Voices of a New Democracy – CPS Focus Group Report

Report | November 1, 1994 | 83 pages

This survey provides a detailed and in-depth assessment of South African opinions regarding the country’s recent transition to a democratic society and its ability to address social and economic disparity. National sentiments reflect a sharp awareness of the government’s limitations and restrictions in meeting popular needs, an understanding reflected at both an economic and political level. While criticism exists, disillusioned expectations are fairly limited. The report shows that nationals are prepared to accept less in order to spread benefits more widely and equally, revealing hopeful yet realistic expectations of future progress in the country.
