Justin joined Charney Research as a Project Manager in 2006, bringing 5 years experience managing research projects, both domestically and abroad. He started in corporate market research working for NFO China — a division of NFO Worldwide — in Shanghai, China in 2000, and has continued working in different research fields ever since. Since joining Charney Research he has personally managed numerous international and domestic projects, supervising every stage of qualitative and quantitative research projects from inception to completion, often in regions and with populations where no substantial research has been initiated. His duties include proposal writing, project development, staff training and management, questionnaire development, focus group moderation, data analysis, and report editing.
Justin’s project management and analytical experience includes projects for non-profit, corporate, government, and academic clients and colleagues. While at NFO China, he worked on research in a wide variety of industrial sectors, including automotive, communications, cosmetics, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and media. His clients included Fortune 500 companies such as Coca-Cola, Turner Broadcasting, Volkswagen, and Mars Incorporated, among others. He also spent some time in China managing the daily operations of a start-up company. His duties there included sales and promotions, managing and improving client relations and overseeing a membership program with over 10,000 clients, partners and members.
During graduate school, Justin worked as a Research Assistant to the Associate Dean of the Evans School of Public Affairs, where he conducted surveys, analyzed data and created reports on various policy issues, including education financing and policy, student enrollment and satisfaction, and tuition and pricing of comparative academic programs. His graduate studies focused on organizational capacity building in development settings, and included work opportunities in the field. During one summer he consulted with a grassroots nonprofit in Romania (Good Samaritan Beius), evaluating the organizational model, conducting a financial evaluation, and helping to improve organizational communication. He also spent several months Mozambique working with an international NGO (VillageReach) to establish measurable and quantifiable metrics, mapping its logistics supply chain, creating new data collection tools and procedures, and improving the reporting system between its Seattle-based headquarters and the field.
Justin grew up in the Pacific Northwest, received his B.A. in Asian Studies from Pitzer College in Claremont, California and his Master of Public Administration with a focus on International Development from the University of Washington.
